E-commerce trends 2022. What awaits marketplace sellers?

However, so far it is relatively easy to enter most niches – the main thing is to have the knowledge and some kind of sane budget. At the same time, knowledge, in my opinion, is now even more important than money. E-commerce startups are leveraging emerging technologies, such as AI and AR, to create more personalized and immersive shopping experiences.

In addition, the marketing budget of the entire cost structure for launching a brand on the marketplace is a rather small part, so you can recoup investments quite quickly.

How to stand out from competitors? 

If you think about lowering the price to attract buyers, then you will not live long in the marketplace – a competitor will come who will dump you too. In 2022, dumping strategies will fade into the background.

Build a brand, make cool product cards, collect a customer base, develop a community and your social networks – get ready for the fact that in the future you will have to build a full-fledged sales funnel and fight for the attention of the buyer. The sooner you do this, the easier it will be for you in 2-3 years.

Nut tightening

The history of the development of any Russian marketplace will follow the path of Amazon. At the very beginning, any site is interested in attracting as many sellers as possible – this is necessary for a large assortment of goods, low prices, competition, and attracting buyers.

Gradually, the quantitative growth of sellers will become less of a priority for the marketplace than qualitative growth. The tightening of the screws will begin – the introduction of certificates for certain goods, cutting off fakes, illiquid assets and any other sales schemes.

Moreover, in addition to tightening the requirements for “whitewashing” the business, the nuts will also be tightened in the field of buyouts and buybacks – for example, Ozon is already removing fake positive reviews, and Wildberries is excluding them from the rating. Everything will only get worse from there.

Not only the rating of sellers will be under close attention – marketplaces will monitor how you trade on the site. If now the sites turn a blind eye to the self-employed, who are prohibited from reselling, then in the future they will pay attention to this.

Marketplaces will introduce new “chips”

Naturally, we will wait for the improvement of the service for sellers – we all know the disadvantages of Wildberries with its constant delays, loss of goods and strangely working support. If this does not happen, sellers will start to leave for other sites, and this is no longer profitable for the marketplace.
